Frequently Asked Questions

  • The air pressure within the chamber is increased, typically to 1.75 to 2 ATA by pumping air into the chamber

Breathing 100% oxygen via a sealed mask or hood allows oxygen to be dissolved in your blood plasma as well as in the red blood cells in your blood.

The extra oxygen is carried throughout your body where it can diffuse more readily into tissues.

As well as increasing the oxygen levels in the body, the pressure changes how oxygen is carried through the body.

The pressure allows oxygen to dissolve into the plasma fluid and lymph and so the oxygen can seep through to any restricted areas caused by swelling, inflammation, or injury more easily.

The result of this is the triggering of various healing mechanisms including:

    • An increase in available oxygen to areas that are struggling

    • A stimulation of growth factors

    • A trigger of anti-inflammatory response

    • A rapid increase in stem cell production

  • The number of HBOT sessions will vary depending on the condition being treated.

Acute conditions may only require a few sessions, whereas chronic sessions may require 20 to 30 sessions or more.

Some conditions are treated long-term to help alleviate symptoms, people may have a regular routine or arrange visits on an ad-hoc basis.

  • HBOT is known to benefit a wide range of conditions, including wound healing, radiation injuries, chronic infections, diabetic ulcers, Long Covid, IBS and more.

HBOT can also be used both before and to aid recovery after surgery, as well as for soft tissue injuries and bone fractures.

It can help improve symptoms related to certain neurological and autoimmune disorders.

HBOT by its very nature helps your body function better and easier.

  • The only absolute contra-indication is an untreated pneumothorax.

Severe sinus or ear infections may cause discomfort due to the increase in pressure.

We have advice from Professor Philip James answering a variety of questions here.

  • No two people are the same, so invariably their results will differ. HBOT is a therapy that makes it easier for the body to function and repair. Basically, it will depend on your body and it’s priorities - but it increases the availability of its most fundamental requirement.

From experience we know that Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, as well as increasing healing also improves general wellbeing. It can greatly compliment other therapies and treatment regimes.

  • You simply sit down in one of the 5 chairs placed around the chamber and relax.

You are set up with an oxygen mask or hood, that you wear once we are over 10 feet of pressure (about 6 minutes in). These deliver 100% oxygen supplied via an on-demand system from a tank.

It takes around 15 minutes to slowly reach the desired pressure, between 24 and 33 feet of pressure (1.75 to 2 ATA), at which point you simply relax for an hour before starting to ascend back to normal pressure which takes around 15 minutes again.

The chamber has a few small windows so you can see out and is large inside for comfort.

You should not feel anything during the session other than a pressure change in your ears similar to that when flying in an aeroplane. The staff with explain ways to help with this.

There are a number of footstools, cushions and tables to get yourself comfy should you wish to relax, read a book or do some work.

We have an area where you can make yourself a brew, drinks can be taken in with you.

You can see more details on what happens here.

  • Yes, we have Wi-fi available and many clients listen to music or audio books with earphones or catch up on emails etc.

  • A session lasts approximately an hour and a half - 1 hour at full pressure with approximately 15 minutes spent increasing the pressure and then 15 minutes decreasing again.

  • A session costs £25 for Adults

    FREE for children (0-18years)

If people are struggling, financially, to access the treatment please talk to us

  • No - we have had very young babies in the chamber and have clients in their 90s.

Under 18’s need to have an adult present at the centre and there is space within the chamber for accompanying adults.

  • When the chamber is pressurised, you may feel pressure changes in your ears, much like when you are on a plane. You can relieve that feeling by yawning, swallowing or sucking a sweet. Other than ear pressure you should not experience any other unusual sensations.

Most people feel relaxed, and find it a nice time to read a book or have a rest.

  • In our experience, most people do not. The chamber feels larger inside than you may expect. There are small windows around the chamber to see out and let light in.

If you are worried and unsure you are more than welcome to pop down and see /sit in the chamber before making your decision to plan a session.

  • You may need to delay your therapy if you have a cold, fever or flu-like systems. This is because a cold or illness may affect your ability to clear your ears whilst in the chamber and so cause discomfort
